Pier Relocation for Central/Tsim Sha Tsui (East) Ferry Service

Discovery Bay Transportation Services Limited ("DBTPL"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Resort Company Limited, announced that from 22nd July, 2000 (Saturday) onwards, the landing point at Tsim Sha Tsui East for its Central / Tsim Sha Tsui (East) ferry service will be relocated thus expecting to bring further convenience to the majority of the commuters.

The new landing point at Tsim Sha Tsui (East) is about 300 metres to the east of the existing one along the promenade, i.e. closer to the Hong Kong Coliseum. It is expected to shorten the walking distance for commuters travelling to or from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, KCR Kowloon Station, the Hong Kong Coliseum and the centre of the Tsim Sha Tsui East.

"Based on a research conducted earlier, we noticed that about 75% of the respondents welcomed such a relocation," said Mr. Eric Chu, Executive Director of DBTPL. "As long as it brings greater convenience to our passengers, it is worth the effort and the resources we had devoted to the relocation."

The new landing point is strategically located in close proximity to the KCR terminal in Hung Hom. With its swift journey of just five minutes and competitive fare, the ferry service can offer an attractive transport alternative for commuters travelling between the New Territories and Central via the KCR. By taking the Central/Tsim Sha Tsui (East) ferry service, they can enjoy a daily savings of up to HK$13 comparing with using other public transportation modes.

Single trip fare for the Central/Tsim Sha Tsui (East) ferry service is HK$4.5 for adults and $2.3 for senior citizens aged 65 or above and children under 12. Infants under one year old travel for free. Monthly tickets for frequent commuters and students will cost HK$180 and $135 respectively.

Sailings are at 20-minute intervals from 7:40 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday to Saturday and 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and public holiday. Additional sailings will be made, where necessary.

Discovery Bay Transportation Services Ltd. is currently the operator of ferry routes Discovery Bay / Central, Discovery Bay / Mui Wo and Central / Tsim Sha Tsui (East). DBTPL, in conjunction with its partners, is providing the Tuen Mun / Chek Lap Kok / Tung Chung ferry service through Airport Ferry Services Ltd. It is a subsidiary of Hong Kong Resort Co. Ltd., the manager and developer of Discovery Bay, and is held by HKR International Ltd. and CITIC Pacific on a 50-50 basis.
