HKR Care & Share Hosts Spring Luncheon for Elderly - With Good Food, Great Performances & Big Hearts

HKR Care & Share, HKR International Limited’s (“HKRI”) corporate volunteer team, joined by teenage volunteers from the T.W.G.Hs Residential Child Care Services, threw a lunch party for elderly at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, treating them to some good food and great performances.

On 25 February 2012, about 50 seniors at an average age of 70 (some nearly 100 years old) and their family members enjoyed a relaxing spring luncheon entitled 耆樂‧童歡‧賀豐年, organised by HKR Care & Share in collaboration with the T.W.G.Hs Residential Child Care Services and the T.W.G.Hs “Circle of Care”- A Holistic Community Care Programme for Elders with Dementia. The elderly has shown early symptoms of dementia and is awaiting medical assessments.

During the luncheon, teenage volunteers from the T.W.G.Hs Residential Child Care Services sang classic Cantonese pop songs while playing their own guitar music. The Chinese oldies performed by HKR Care & Share volunteers and the magic show, in which the audience was invited to participate and interact with the magicians, also amused and delighted the elderly.

One of the highlights of the luncheon was the performance given by Mr Victor Cha, Managing Director of HKRI, who sang two Cantonese favourites to the applause of the elderly, with the guitar accompaniment by the teenage volunteers from the T.W.G.Hs Residential Child Care Services.

Like everyone else, Mr Cha enjoyed the luncheon. He said:“Over the years, we have been reaching out to the community and offering our love and care to the ones in need. I am so glad to have a chance today to enjoy a relaxing lunch with the elderly from the T.W.G.Hs “Circle of Care” Programme, to chat with them, and also to perform for them together with the youngsters. It is truly a wonderful and heartwarming experience and I do hope that everyone has had a good time together!”

“In the years to come, HKR Care & Share will continue its efforts to care for the needy and to try making a difference in their lives,” Mr Cha said.
