HKR Care & Share Volunteers Pay Home Visits to Singleton Elders during Chinese New Year

Bringing the elders soup, gifts, and most important of all, love

HKR Care & Share, HKR International Limited’s (“HKRI”) corporate volunteer team, visited singleton elders during the Chinese New Year. The home visits were organised in partnership with St. James’ Settlement (“SJS”).

Led by Mr Victor Cha, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of HKRI, about 40 HKR Care & Share volunteers and their family members, the youngest being 6-year-old, visited about 40 singleton elders in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay on 23 February 2013. The volunteers not only brought with them freshly boiled soup and other food items, but also their warm regards, respect and care to the elders who are now living on their own, mostly in deprived conditions.

The elders, who are the service targets of the Support Team for the Elderly under the Wan Chai District Elderly Community Centre of SJS, were delighted to have visitors in the Chinese New Year. They had a joyful time chatting and interacting with the volunteers, in particular the young children.

Mr Cha said: “These elderly people long for others’ love and companion. We are so glad to have a chance to talk to them, to listen to their stories and to let them know that there are people who care about them. It is a heartwarming exercise. HKR Care & Share, with the full support of the company, will continue to reach out to the needy.”

Other HKR Care & Share volunteers also find the visits extremely rewarding, as they believe that they were not only serving the elders, but learning from them at the same time. They treasure the opportunity to be the elders’ company and pledge to continue serving those in need in the society.
