Recognising the support the community has lent to us during our course of development in the past four decades, this year HKR International ("HKRI") especially designed our CSR theme as “Pay it Forward” by cultivating the virtue of compassion in the future generation and inspiring them to show care for those in need and treasure the existing environment and culture. Passing on the rich local heritage to the next generation is an integral part of our “Pay it Forward” programme. On 18 August, HKRI's corporate volunteer team, HKRI Care & Share, joined hands with Life Workshop to organise a Minibus Signage Workshop, inviting over 20 children living in remote areas to become mini sign-writers, with an aim to preserve Hong Kong's local tradition.
Mr. Mak Kam Sang, Hong Kong's last minibus sign-writer, taught the children and our volunteers the history of minibus and signage and some calligraphy basics. The children and volunteers then got their hands on the calligraphy brushes to make their one-of-a-kind signages. Other than signages, children also took home stationery packs sponsored by HKRI Care & Share for the new school year.
Founded in 2004, Life Workshop aims to alleviate cross-generational poverty and advocate cultural diversity in the community by providing a wide variety of services, including school social work support, community development and art and publishing throughout Hong Kong.
