Hong Kong Resort Wins Two Awards in “CAPITAL The Best Developer Awards” for its Discovery Bay Project

Hong Kong Resort Company Limited (“Hong Kong Resort”) has won two awards in the “CAPITAL The Best Developer Awards 2011” organised by CAPITAL Magazine for its innovative & comprehensive design and master planning, as well as the adoption of pioneering green concept, in the development of Discovery Bay. The two awards are “Best Developer-Urban Design & Master Planning Award” and “Best Developer-Green Development Award”.

Winners of the “CAPITAL The Best Developer Awards 2011” were chosen by the experts of the Hong Kong Institute of Real Estate and CAPITAL Magazine. The awards are a testament to the exceptional quality of Discovery Bay in the eyes of both the industry and the media.

Widely acknowledged as a pioneering model of luxury residential project in Asia, Discovery Bay is the first integrated development in Hong Kong boasting a “Green Township” design. With a land area of 649 hectares (about 65 million square feet), Discovery Bay enjoys a very low plot ratio of 0.15. Surrounded by lush greeneries and the serene sea, the development exudes a relaxing southern European ambience. Discovery Bay has been crafted as a tranquil yet thriving community, comprising garden houses, low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise residential properties, a 27-hole Golf Club, a 262-berth Marina Club, two premium clubhouses, the first private beach in Hong Kong, two international primary-cum-secondary schools and other education facilities, two shopping complexes, the largest oceanfront alfresco dining hotspot in Hong Kong and well-connected land & sea transportation networks. Such comprehensive city planning, infrastructure and facilities have created a high-end, low-density community perfect for all. That is why Discovery Bay stands out from the crowd and has won Hong Kong Resort the “Best Developer-Urban Design & Master Planning Award”.

On green development, Discovery Bay is the first “Eco-Friendly Town” in Hong Kong with a green area of about 50 million square feet (over 2/3 of the total land area of Discovery Bay). To ensure air quality and to control noise level, there are restrictions on vehicular access, for example, private cars are not allowed to enter Discovery Bay. Residents travel within the community on shuttle buses or golf carts. Moreover, Hong Kong Resort has integrated various green features into the architectural design of Discovery Bay. For example, most of the residential units face southeast and enjoy natural winds, which helps reduce the need for air-conditioning and save electricity. Low-rise buildings are built in front of mid-rise & high-rise properties, thus improving ventilation, bringing in more natural light and consuming less energy. Also, all phases of Discovery Bay share common facilities and resources, including Satellite Master Antenna Television system (SMATV), fresh water from Discovery Bay Reservoir for flushing and irrigation, LPG supply from a central LPG depot etc. Discovery Bay has won Hong Kong Resort the “Best Developer-Green Development Award” for its excellent performance in the preservation and protection of the environment. The award has also demonstrated Discovery Bay’s leading and pioneering position in providing a perfect living space for all residents.
