Joyful Autumn @ Discovery Bay - Underprivileged Children Have Fun at DBN Family Kingdom & More!

Underprivileged children from Wong Tai Sin enjoyed a uniquely DB (Discovery Bay) experience on a relaxing autumn morning, with a visit to the only European tall ship in Hong Kong, gardening practice at the plant nursery, and innovative games at DB North Plaza.

HKR Care & Share, HKR International Limited’s (“HKRI”) corporate volunteer team, collaborated with Caritas Integrated Family Service Centre - Tung Tau and took a group of about 30 children on a Discovery Bay tour entitled Joyful Autumn @ Discovery Bay on 22 October 2011. The children are mostly from underprivileged families in Wong Tai Sin who rarely have a chance to travel beyond their own district.

Exploring a European Tall Ship & Practising Gardening at the Plant Nursery
Accompanied by about 20 HKR Care & Share volunteers, the children took the opportunity to discover, and appreciate, the natural beauty and multicultural lifestyle of Discovery Bay in the great outdoors. They first visited The Bounty, the only European tall ship replica in Hong Kong which docks in Discovery Bay. The children explored the three-masted wooden tall ship in excitement and were intrigued by its legendary history. They also visited Discovery Bay’s Plant Nursery to learn more about gardening and had hands-on practice on potting a vegetable, which they could take home.

Having Great Fun at DBN Family Kingdom
The innovative games at the popular DBN Family Kingdom, a free event organised by DB North Plaza, were the highlights of the tour. The children ran around DB North Plaza, the brand-new seaside shopping and dining hub in Discovery Bay, and played really hard at the various game zones, enjoying a leisure boat ride at Jolly Boating, testing their physical strength at Jump & Stick and showcasing their talents at Creative Craft and Royal Orchestra ......  Filled with fun and laughter, the tour ended with a simple and delicious buffet lunch at the resort-style Club Siena nearby.

Joyful Autumn @ Discovery Bay was not only about the place, the games and the food. It was the friendly sharing and interaction between the volunteers and the children that made it a really enjoyable and memorable event for all! HKR Care & Share will continue to collaborate with other social service organisations to extend its love and care to the community.
