HKRI Taikoo Hui Set to Become Puxi’s Landmark Business and Lifestyle Destination

New mixed-use project by HKR International and Swire Properties completes Nanjing Road (West) CBD

Today saw the official topping out of the two office towers in HKRI Taikoo Hui, the latest major project in the Nanjing Road (West) CBD area. Set to be an iconic landmark in Shanghai, HKRI Taikoo Hui is a large-scale mixed-use facility jointly developed by HKR International and Swire Properties.

The two premium Grade-A office towers which stand 250m and 170m tall - known as “HKRI Center One” and “HKRI Center Two” respectively - cover a total of over 170,000 square metres (1,850,000 sq ft).  The development also features a prime retail mall space spanning over 100,000 square meters (1,078,000 sq ft); three luxury hotels and serviced apartments with over 400 rooms; and more than 1,200 parking spaces.

The overall construction of the development continues to make good progress, with both office towers topped out, the superstructure of the retail portion close to completion, and the hotels and serviced apartments at an advanced stage. The site handover to retail and office tenants is targeted to begin from the second half of 2016, while the retail mall, hotels and serviced apartments are scheduled to open in the first half of 2017.

With a total investment of RMB 17 billion, HKR International and Swire Properties are committed to bring a wealth of building and management experience to this development.

"We very much look forward to the forthcoming completion of HKRI Taikoo Hui, our biggest development in Mainland China to date”, said Jackie Tang, CEO of HKRI Taikoo Hui at the ceremony. “This is a pioneering project in many ways with sustainability and quality at its core. Our stakeholders’ commitment to reducing the project’s environmental impact and creating a sustainable business destination is underlined by the attainment of the LEED® Platinum pre-certification, which will attract leading companies with the most ambitious sustainability requirements."

"This signature development will be the fifth project of Swire Properties and the second ‘Taikoo Hui’ in Mainland China,” said Clarence Lee, General Manager – Leasing and Management of HKRI Taikoo Hui. “The opportunity to develop at such a prime location does not come along very often. Today’s topping out marks a key milestone in our journey to bring this landmark project to the city. We believe that HKRI Taikoo Hui’s prominent location, connectivity, bespoke design and quality will ensure its place as a new lifestyle destination and a premium business address in this prestigious neighbourhood of Shanghai."

HKRI Taikoo Hui will feature two open piazzas seamlessly connected to the indoor shopping mall. The mall will host a trade mix of around 250 brands, from luxury fashion and accessories, beauty and international dining options to bookstores, supermarkets and a yoga centre. Fourteen brands will open their first shops in Mainland China at HKRI Taikoo Hui, while 12 leading brands will make their Shanghai debut. The shopping mall will also feature 12 unique concept stores, and over 40 F&B offerings ranging from cafés and casual dining to celebrity restaurants in the mall and hotel.
The project is also home to a European mansion over a century old. The building has been exquisitely preserved and was re-named ‘Cha House’ in commemoration of Dr. Cha Chi Ming, founder of HKR International. The mansion will be renovated to maintain the distinctive flavor of Shanghai’s rich architectural history.

HKRI Taikoo Hui will offer excellent connectivity, with direct access to the new metro line 13, with lines 2 and 12 (phase 2) at West Nanjing Road station only walking distance away. The site is also strategically located next to the city’s two major elevated highways.
