HKRI’s New Mall in Tsuen Wan Named “8½” Leasing Goes Well with Anchor Tenants Secured

HKR International Limited (“HKRI”) today announces that its new mall in CDW Building, Tsuen Wan is named 8½ (formerly “CDW Place”). CDW Building, comprising an office tower of approx. 720,000 sq. ft. and a 270,000 sq. ft. mall, is undergoing a complete refurbishment. It is expected to become a focal point for leisure and entertainment in Tsuen Wan when it completes by phases in 2016. 
 
8½ enjoys prime location and excellent accessibility by various modes of transport. It will become a new dynamic and stylish retail complex and entertainment hub in Tsuen Wan, attracting the young generation and fun seekers. Pre-leasing of 8½ has been encouraging with major tenants including Physical Beauty & Fitness, Victoria Harbour Restaurant and Saizeriya Italian Restaurant secured. 
 
Physical will open its largest fitness and yoga centre in Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan district in 8½. “Apart from state-of-the-art gym facilities, sauna and steam bath, the new centre will offer a wide selection of fitness classes. Saizeriya Italian Restaurant first entered Hong Kong in 2008 and their first branch was located right here.  “We are committed to bringing healthy and delicious food to our customers at affordable prices. CDW Building has been going through refurbishment since April 2015. The handover of the shopping mall, 8½, is scheduled for Q2 this year and retail shops are expected to open in Q3, while the office tower is to be completed by phases from Q1 2016. Leasing of both the mall and the office tower is underway.

The Story Behind 8½ 
In the early 1910’s when Castle Peak Road was built, the addresses along the road were marked in “milestone” to represent the distance from Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier. For instance, Anglers' Beach is at “13 milestone Castle Peak Road” and Cafeteria Old Beach is at “18¾ milestone Castle Peak Road”. Although nowadays the street name and numbers have been standardised, the milestones indicating the distance still exist. 8½ is located at 388 Castle Peak Road in Tsuen Wan, which is right between the 8 and 9 milestones of Castle Peak Road, hence the name “8½”.
