The Sukhothai Shanghai, a contemporary lifestyle hotel, opened today, heralding an exciting new chapter for The Sukhothai Hotels & Resorts of HKR International Limited (“HKRI”) and its strategic development in Mainland China. The opening ceremony was officiated by Victor Cha, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of HKRI, Ivan Lee, Executive Vice President of Operations of HKRI, and Marcel N.A. Holman, General Manager of The Sukhothai Shanghai in the presence of over 100 guests, media and hotel associates.
HKRI’s Deputy Chairman and Managing Director Victor Cha said, “Hospitality has long been one of the key business pillars of the Group dated back to 1980s. With firm foothold in South East Asia, it is exhilarating to witness the expansion of our Sukhothai hotel brand to Shanghai. We at HKRI believe in creating a lifestyle in the communities we operate, and The Sukhothai Shanghai best demonstrates this value by reinforcing the Group’s hospitality prowess, and in many ways complementing HKRI Taikoo Hui to heighten the stylish, highly-curated experience offered by the whole complex.”
Mr Cha then handed over a key to the hotel general manager, Marcel N.A. Holman, who leads a team of over 200 hotel associates in the operation of The Sukhothai Shanghai.
“Building further on the tremendous success of The Sukhothai Bangkok, we are thrilled and excited to establish the Sukhothai brand in China”, said Marcel N.A. Holman, General Manager of The Sukhothai Shanghai. “We are extremely proud to present a contemporary designed hotel to this dynamic, global metropolis Shanghai and with our passion for sincere hospitality, the hotel follows Sukhothai’s service philosophy, in delivering personable service and experiential memories to our guests".
The Sukhothai Shanghai forms an integral part of HKRI Taikoo Hui, which also includes Grade-A office towers and a premium shopping mall. Conveniently located in the shopping and tourist hotspot of West Nanjing Road and Shimen Yi Road, the multi-purpose complex has become one of Shanghai’s most prominent commercial and retail hubs since its opening in 2017.

About The Sukhothai Hotels & Resorts
The Sukhothai hotel logo consists of 22 diamond droplets forming the Chedi design that was inspired by Sukhothai, the first capital of Siam. Each drop of diamond, polished to an identical marquise shape and seemingly finding its own position within the whole represents the individuals of the qualified hotel associates who, guided by intuition yet precise in every detail, anticipate our guests’ needs and cater to them exceptionally.
Each property within the brand portfolio remains distinct and uniquely designed while maintaining the essential quality that is the hallmark of the brand.
