DBee Oasis, Hong Kong’s First Urban Oasis Project Launched

DB Oasis is an innovative project initiated by HKRI Care & Share, the Group’s corporate volunteer team. On 15 May, we were honoured to have Charlotte Ho, General Manager of Branding and Marketing at Hong Kong Resort; Simon Tu, General Manager of DB Operations at Discovery Bay; and Jill Kwong, co-founder of the bee conservation organisation Beetales, as officiating guests of the launching ceremony. Together, they installed bee hotels at the DBee Oasis, marking a new chapter in conservation efforts in Discovery Bay.

The ceremony was also graced by our stakeholders in the community, including residents, schools and NGOs, as well as the media.

Nestled in the Central Park of Discovery Bay, the bee hotels are designed to provide essential floral and water sources, along with safe resting spots for bees and other pollinating insects. The blossom tower is crafted with native plants from the Kadoorie Farm and natural materials. The initiative will contribute to the sustainable growth of the urban ecosystem by supporting pollinators within a 2-km radius, including Siu Ho Wan Bus Depot and Discovery Bay Golf Club.

We are partnering with Hong Kong Metropolitan University to install instruments to monitor pollinating insects and conduct environmental DNA sequencing for plants. This collaboration will enable us to collect samples and valuable data for assessing biodiversity and preparing statistical analysis, and thus provide actionable recommendations for enhancing urban sustainability.

Coinciding with World Bee Day (20 May) and International Biodiversity Day (22 May), the opening of DBee Oasis marked our effort that aims to raise awareness of pollinators and ecological conservation, inspiring communities to come together to build a greener, more sustainable city.

Come visit our DBee Oasis and learn more about biodiversity!
