Media Coverage: Inside HK’s First Urban Oasis – DBee Oasis

Capital Magazine recently featured an in-depth coverage showcasing HKRI partnership with Beetales in launching HK’s first urban oasis – DBee Oasis at Discovery Bay Central Park. This project aims to improve the habitat for our pollinators and eco-diversity, exemplifying how scientific research, community education and corporate philosophy can come together.

We collaborated with the Kadoorie Farm to plant a variety of native flora, providing food and shelter for pollinators (including two legally protected butterfly species, Troides Aeacus and Troides Helena). DBee Oasis also leverages innovative eDNA technology in partnership with a research team from HKMU to analyse the diversity and volume of insects visiting our blossom tower, contributing to the development of a local pollinator database.

Ms. Charlotte Ho, General Manager of Branding and Marketing at Hong Kong Resort, shared, “We have high ambition for DBee Oasis and truly wish it can make a meaningful contribution to conservation. It serves as a fantastic educational resource for schools in the community, and can enhance social inclusiveness by inviting our community partners and the underprivileged for visits to learn about the importance of conservation.”

Discovery Bay is committed to integrating green practices and DBee Oasis forms part of its sustainability roadmap. Other key initiatives include solar panel installation across managed properties, closed-loop recycling, and mangrove conservation. Community programmes like the DB Family Farm Project and the DB Kids Farming Programme are also in place to promote green living.
